On the one hand, the lecture "Introduction to Industrial Science" is to be understood as an introductory course to the subject matter; on the other hand, it is also intended to prepare students for the workplace. Finally, current topics in occupational science are discussed critically, including digital and demographic social change and their possible significance for the present and future of work.
Students learn to recognize and assess the effects of the work environment, activity and process organization on people. Furthermore, they learn methods of analysis, modeling and optimization of work processes and work systems. They are familiar with the current regulations on occupational safety and requirements for safety-related work design. With the acquired knowledge, students will be able to critically assess socio-technical work systems and to develop and implement optimization measures.
Teaching and Learning Method
Classical lectures are used to provide students with a prior knowledge base. These lectures are linked to exercises that require collaborative learning (group work) as well as problem-based learning and critical discourse to encourage active knowledge construction. All teaching materials are made available to students digitally prior to the lectures. Students are thus given the opportunity to inform themselves in advance and, if necessary, to discuss unclear issues in class. In self-learning phases, teaching is supported by technological aids in the sense of blended learning (Moodle quizzes, etc.). In order to promote the transfer of knowledge into a later professional activity, application-oriented examples and current problems from industry and application-oriented research of the Institute are used in all courses.
