The need for automation in industrialized countries, especially in Germany, will lead to an increased use of more or less autonomous robots. These systems can be differentiated according to their degree of autonomy: Where once industrial robots performed simple and repetitive tasks in isolation in their respective work cells, the picture is increasingly changing to one of cooperation between humans and machines. The closest form of collaboration is known as human-machine collaboration.
In the field of human-robot cooperation, the question is addressed as to how this cooperation can be designed to achieve a safe, functional and humane result. Research at the IAW – Institut für Arbeitswissenschaft (Institute of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics) – always focuses on the entire socio-technical work system – with particular attention to the requirements of humans. In doing so, we strive to develop ergonomic solutions that meet all the demands set by the conflicting priorities of increased productivity, ecological sustainability, and a safe and stress-optimized working environment. In ergonomics, we do not see these conflicting priorities as a problem, but rather as an opportunity for new and creative solutions that will benefit the entire work environment of the future.
IAW has a great deal of experience in this area and also carries out accompanying studies in this area. We can support you in a variety of ways during the introduction or redesign of your human-machine interaction (HMI) work systems.
