Abstract

In Germany and worldwide, musculoskeletal disorders are the most common cause of sick leave and the second most common cause of early retirement for health rea-sons. Although, evidence-based research into the causes of musculoskeletal disorders have so far been characterized as inadequate, the risks for the development of musculoskeletal disorders have been investigated by correlation studies. Prospective methods and tools, such as digital human models, are already used to-day to design work systems in the best possible way. The aim of this work is the analysis and evidence-based further development of methods for the analysis and evaluation of risks of the development of musculoskeletal disorders. The central re-search question of this thesis is accordingly concerned with the investigation of interactions of body part postures. The results of the empirical studies of this thesis show the significance of interactions of body parts postures. On the basis of a multiple regression analysis, a musculoskeletal stress model is developed for the observation-based analysis and assessment of working postures.
