Our Institute

The IAW – Institut für Arbeitswissenschaft (Institute of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics) – at RWTH Aachen University includes the Chair of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics, headed by Institute Director Professor Verena Nitsch, as well as the Research Department of balanced Human Systems Integration, headed by Professor Frank Flemisch. 

The Chair of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics, headed by Professor Verena Nitsch, is composed of three departments: Work Organization, Technical Vocational Education and Training, and Ergonomics and Human-Machine Systems. The Department of Work Organization is headed by Professor Susanne Mütze-Niewöhner. The Technical Vocational Education and Training is headed by Professor Martin Frenz. The Department of Ergonomics and Human-Machine Systems is headed by Professor Alexander Mertens and Dr. Christopher Brandl.
