FeDiNAR project at GfA-NEXT 2021
Work Science Meets Augmented Reality
The 4th GfA-NEXT qualification workshop (September 16 to 17, 2021) at DHBW Mannheim, was actively supported by the BMBF-funded project FeDiNAR (Didactical Use of Errors with the Help of Augmented Reality) and the RWTH Aachen University Quality Offensive Teacher Education-funded project LeBiAC (Teacher Education at RWTH Aachen University). On the first day of the workshop, the participants were able to get to know each other with an excursion to Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and a dinner. Learning with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) was the focus of the second day of the workshop. With presentations about the FeDiNAR project and a short introduction about vocational and higher education and their didactics, the participants warmed up for the workshop. In a marketplace, the FeDiNAR team together with the companies Dr.-Ing. Paul Christiani GmbH & Co. KG and kreatiVRaum GmbH presented their AR and VR applications, and participants were able to try them actively.
The FeDiNAR project showed the current state of the project and its demonstrators. As a special highlight, the use case of an injection moulding machine was presented for the first time. Here, a full-size injection moulding machine could be seen in AR and production parameters could be set and started by using a touch screen. In addition, the technical system visualized the production and output of a product in AR.
After the participants had been able to discover various AR and VR applications, they became active themselves and developed their own teaching/learning situation using AR or VR. The starting point was fischertechnik's Learning Factory 4.0, which is designed for a teaching/learning situation within higher education on the one hand and for vocational training on the other. Both teams of the FeDiNAR and LeBiAC projects supported the participants. Overall, exciting results emerged, which ensured further discussions and exchange among the participants ending in a successful conclusion of these two eventful workshop days.
